Charles Haydon Wharton, 81, of Erlanger, Kentucky, husband of Ann Pennington Wharton, died Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at the Baptist Village of Northern Kentucky following a brief illness.

Besides his wife of 53 years, he is survived by his two sons and their families: Bill and Julie Wharton, Florence, Kentucky, and their children John and Helen; Haydon and Sandi Wharton, Union, Kentucky, and their children Emma and Parker; two sisters, Margaret Julia Bohan, Lexington, Kentucky and Mary "Tissie" Mathews, Gurnee, Illinois; as well as many loving friends and family.

His brother, John Wharton, of Lexington, precedes him in death.

Charles was born and raised in Lexington, a son of the late John and Margaret Haydon Wharton, was a graduate of University High School and an alumnus of the University of Kentucky. He was a Korean War Era Air Force veteran, a retired insurance executive and an avid fan of UK basketball and the Cincinnati Reds. He was a member of St. Paul Church, Florence and AAA. He also volunteered for the Alzheimer's Association. He was cursed with an unrequited love for golf and he had a great passion for model railroading.

Services 6:00 pm Thursday, September 15, 2011 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 16 East 4th Street, Covington KY, with a reception immediately following at the church. Visitation at church is from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Visitation in Lexington is Friday, September 16, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Milward-Broadway followed by a graveside service in the Lexington Cemetery at 11:45 a.m.

Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger is serving the family.
