James Joel Kobach, 80, of Union, died Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at Cold Spring Transitional Care.

He was born September 30, 1934 in Stevens Point, Wisconsin to the late Joseph and Eleanor Schuwaller Kobach. Jim was a member of St. Paul Parish in Florence. He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, where he majored in pharmacy and business after which he spent 6 months in the Army Medical Corps at Fort Sam, Houston Texas. He continued in the Army Reserve for 22 years where he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.

In 1960, Jim joined the King Soopers supermarket chain in Denver, Colorado as a pharmacist. King Soopers was the first to have pharmacies in supermarkets. In 1965, he became the first pharmacy supervisor and in 1971, was appointed director of pharmacy operations. In 1979, he was appointed director of advertising and marketing and in 1980 became director of retail operations. King Soopers was then purchased by the Kroger Co. where Jim became the Vice President of Kroger Corporate Pharmacy in Cincinnati from which he retired.

Jim was on the volunteer ski patrol weekends at Vail and Copper Mountain for 15 years. He enjoyed running every day, canoeing and kayaking on Lake Dillon and Lake Powell, waterskiing, boating, camping, hiking and elk hunting.

Jim leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara Hanna Kobach; sons, James T. Kobach of Hawaii and John Kobach of Colorado; daughters, Jill Eldredge of Colorado and Julie Anne Samson of California; brother, William (Jan) Kobach of Kansas; grandchildren, Brandy, Cristina, Jauton and Jarrett; and great granddaughter Scout.

Memorial Mass at St. Paul Catholic Church, Florence, Monday, September 14 at 12:10 p.m. Interment at Little Wolf Cemetery Manawa, Wisconsin at the convenience of the family. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger, is serving the family.

The family requests no flowers and instead suggests memorials to Alzheimers Association Cincinnati Chapter, 644 Linn Street Suite 1026, Cinti, OH, 45203 and/or St. Paul Catholic Church 7301 Dixie Hwy, Florence, KY 41042.
