Joan M. Douglas

Mrs. Joan Louise McBroom Douglas, age 91, of Florence, passed away Saturday morning, November 22, 2025 at Village Care Center in Erlanger. She was born March 26, 1934, in Woodstock, Illinois, as the daughter of John and Emily McBroom.

Joan was preceded in death by her four brothers - Burton, John William, Howard, and Robert McBroom - and husbands, Larry Brunson and Richard Douglas. 

Joan is survived by her children - David Thomas of Columbia, TN, Dianne Thomas-Secord of Brooksville, FL, and Lisa Thomas of Crittenden, KY. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Elizabeth Bray, Roberta Eldridge, Angelique Moon, Jacqueline Parker, Rebecca Baxter, Jennifer Carroll, Melissa Smith, Terry Hardin, Rachel Bankemper, Daniel Hardin, and Carly Thomas. Joan is also survived by 25 great grandchildren, and 19 great great grandchildren.

Joan was a graduate of Western Kentucky University, having been awarded her undergraduate and two graduate degrees. Joan began teaching school in 1956 and longest served the Kenton County schools, having retired from Dixie High School in 1995. She was a member of Kento-boo Baptist Church.

Visitation is 10:00 am to 12:00 noon, Saturday December 6, 2025, at the Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home in Erlanger. Funeral service follows at 12:00 noon. Interment will be in Fort Myers Memorial Gardens in Fort Myers, FL.
