John Irvin Anderson, Sr., 86, of Florence, formerly of Bullittsville, died Wednesday, October 8, at St. Luke West Hospital in Florence. He was a retired Commissioner of Natural Resources with the State of Kentucky.
He was a United States Marine Veteran, having served in World War II. He was a member of the Bullittsville Christian Church and the Hebron Masonic Lodge F & AM #757.
Mr. Anderson was a former Secretary of the Kentucky Forest Industry Committee, a former Secretary of the Kentucky Tree Farm Committee, a former Field Man for the Kentucky Divisions of Soil and Water Resources, a former Chief Administrative Officer of the Cabinet for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, and a former Kentucky Deputry Agriculture Commissioner for two years.
Survivors include sons, John I. (Phyllis) Anderson, Jr. of Petersburg and Brent Anderson of Conroe, Texas; daughter, Georjean (Ray) Hill of Garland, Texas; three grandchildren, Kerry A. Anderson, Wes Anderson and Kristin Scott; and two great grandchildren, Cameron Anderson and Jacob Scott.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Melvina Inman Anderson; and parents, William Chester and Nellie Gilliard Anderson.
