Mary Lay

June 28, 1930 — September 8, 2015

Mary Margaret Knecht Lay, 85, passed away Tuesday, September 08, 2015. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Clara Zuborg Knecht.

Mary worked at 5th Street Frisch's while she raised her boys and then she went on to retire from Cincinnati Bell. She was a member of Mother of God Church in Covington. The youngest of 10 siblings, Mary never drove so one would often see her and Clara Mae walking to church on Sunday. She loved all children and her family was her greatest treasure. She loved Christmas, Easter, Halloween and all birthdays. She played games with all of the children and her children's children until she was no longer able. Her family and friends will always remember walking into the house smelling food cooking, and sitting around the table drinking black coffee or Pepsi cola while laughing and enjoying one another's company. Her favorite son was, "What's his name?" Her children will rise and call her Blessed.

She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert "Pete" Lay; eldest son, Paul Anthony Lay; brothers, Theodore Knecht, George "Bud" Knecht, Charles Knecht, John Knecht, and Frank Knecht; sisters, Louise Bergerfeld, Dorothy Roberts, Betty Knecht, and Clara Knecht; and grandson, Brandon Lay.
