Nancy Wilkerson

Nancy Bird Wilkerson, 93, of Crestview Hills passed away Friday, April 15, 2016 at her residence.

Mrs. Wilkerson was born in southern Kentucky on May 3, 1922 to Dr. R. Lee Bird, Jr. and Marguerite Rand Bird. She attended Covington Holmes High School and the University of Kentucky, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in teaching. She taught elementary school her entire career in the Kenton County Public Schools, retiring from Caywood Elementary.

Prior to beginning her teaching career she was in the Women’s Army Corp supporting World War II. She was married to Henry Clay Wingate for a number of years and then married Lt. Col. William F. Wilkerson. They were married for 45 years. Both husband preceded her in death along with a sister, Mary Wildeman.

Mrs. Wilkerson was very proud of her genealogical heritage, tracing the family’s roots all the way back to the Mayflower and was a lifelong member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Colonial Dames. She and the Colonel were members of the Fort Mitchell Country Club for many years and enjoyed going to Florida each winter, until they were unable. She was “Feisty” to say the least and was sure to get her way, even in death.

Mrs. Wilkerson is survived by two sisters, Margaret Bird Carl and Sue McHugh, along with nieces and nephews.

Private services were held at the convenience of the family. Interment was in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger handled the arrangements.
