Rev. Dr. Lassetter

Rev. Dr. Clarence Ray Lassetter of Fort Wright, passed away May 15, 2014 at 9:15 a.m. at St. Elizabeth, Edgewood. He was welcomed into Heaven by his first wife Jean Rasco Lassetter and step son David Glass.

Clarence was the son of Benjamin Poole Lassetter and Lola Louise Lyle, he was born in Harperville, Mississippi on May 13, 1926. He was a member of Fort Mitchell Baptist Church.

Clarence obtained the degrees of B.A., University of Texas, B.S. in Naval Science and Tactics, University of Texas, Bachelors and Masters in Divinity and a Ph.D. in Theology from Southern Baptist Seminary. He was a World War II veteran who spent 42 years in the Navy and Naval Reserves as chaplain and retired in 1986 as a Commander. In later years he was also chaplain for the Sea Scouts Ship 717.

After Seminary training, he held pastorships at Raymond Baptist Church, Glen Allen Baptist Church and Fort Mitchell Baptist Church. He spent 30 years serving seniors at Panorama Senior Center with Sunday morning services called Pan Chapel in the Panorama Apartments which is associated with the First Baptist Church of Covington.

His passion to help the public mental health was evidenced by 12 years at Comprehensive Care Center (co- founder) and the founder of Droege House, first established in Covington. He spent 22 years as Northern Kentucky Transit Coordinator. He taught math and philosophy at Northern Kentucky University and Chase Law School.

He bridged the spiritual community and headed up the Protestant Association of Churches later renamed Interfaith Commission. His desire to grow fruits, vegetables, roses, flowers (he especially enjoyed tending to wild flowers), pecans and honey were loved and enjoyed by family, neighbors and various individuals in various communities in Northern Kentucky and the Cincinnati area. He was a member of the Fort Wright Garden Club, who met monthly in Covington. He loved working in his yard, one of his most beloved places to be.

Survivors include his wife Gean Lassetter; daughters, Elizabeth Lee Lassetter of Long Beach, California and Leslie Ann Lassetter of Bellows Falls, Vermont; sons, Scott Austin (Cindy Roser) Lassetter of Alpharetta, Georgia and Steven Lyle (Linda Ashcraft) Lassetter of Middletown, Ohio; step daughters, Kathy Lynn Glass of Katy, Texas, Becky Ann Glass and Robert McCurdy of Austin, Texas, and Cindy (James) Lassere of Lewisville, Texas; grandchildren, Mark Finke Jr., Erika( Brad) Kalnai, and Gabrielle (Chris) Flynn; and step granddaughter, Kellie Glass.

Visitation is Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Fort Mitchell Baptist Church from 1:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. with a Memorial Service to follow at 4:00 p.m. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger is serving the family.
