Robert Edwards

d. October 14, 1942

Robert Lloyd Edwards

Bob entered into this world as the first child of Sarah Elizabeth White (Florence, Kentucky) and Lloyd Edwards on October 14, 1942 in Independence, Missouri. He was joined by his brother, Danny (Casper, Wyoming). The gentle kindness of his mother and the firm guidance of his father helped him discover the power of the spirit and of love.

Bob gave his whole heart to the woman he fell in love with and married in 1964, Sylvia Sue Smith. Then in 1966, Uncle Sam called and Bob was shipped away to defend our freedoms. After his duty was over, the family grew. As a team, Bob and Sylvia attempted to civilize their three sons, Chad, Sean, and Paul, and teach them the power of family as they ventured to homes in Missouri, California, Indiana, and Kentucky.

Bob worked at Ben Franklin, Mutual Manufacturing Supply, and the Internal Revenue Service. In his spare time, he loved working with his hands in his woodshop creating furniture and small handcrafted items. Through all the moves, one thing was constant and that was that they lived and learned and loved. "There was joy and there was hurt," in the words of Alan Jackson.

One of the greatest curve balls they encountered as a family was Sylvia's battle with cancer that she surrendered to in 1991. There were times of "coming together and falling apart." The Edwards' men all vowed to never give up and the three sons went on to form their own families.

Chad married Dede and together they have Robert, Corey, Meghan, Heather, and Sara (Wetumpka, Alabama). Sean and his wife, Amy, are raising Spencer, Alex, and Chase (Burlington, Kentucky). And lastly, Paul married Laura and they are parents to Olivia, Joel, and Iris (Florence, Kentucky). Bob's 11 grandchildren are his pride and joy.

Over the last years of his life, Bob combated the weakness of his lungs due to COPD. He proved that life circumstances "can break the back, but not the spirit" of a true man. He continued "to bow his head to Jesus" and stated that even with the high dose of agony he experienced towards the end, he would do it all over again.

Now Bob wants us "not to cry or worry because he knows he is blessed" and "that God has a place in Heaven waiting for him." "He said that his greatest contribution to this life is the loved ones he has left behind."

Bob took his last breath on August 20, 2009, at 12:00 p.m. Both he, and his family, would like to thank all those who cared for him over the years from St. Elizabeth, Health South, Visiting Angels, and Bluegrass Hospice.

A Chapel Service at Highland Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Monday, August 24, 2009. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger, is in charge of arrangements.
