Selma Siekman

November 25, 1941 — April 1, 2017


Selma Ann Siekman, 75, a lifelong resident of Boone County, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2017 in Fort Myers, Florida.

She was the daughter of the late Wilfred Allen Siekman and Nannie Lee (Roberts) Siekman. She was an active leader and member of Bullittsville Christian Church.

She was a retired Boone County School Principal serving Kelly Elementary for 10 years and Ockerman Middle School for 9 years. She taught in the Erlanger School System, Model Lab School at Eastern Kentucky University and the Metropolitan School System of Nashville, TN. After retirement, she worked for Northern Kentucky University in the Teacher and Principal Internship Program. She graduated from Boone County High School and was named the first recipient of the Boone County High School PTA Scholarship. She graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with BA and MA degrees and did additional graduate work at the University of Tennessee and Xavier University.

She was the past president of the Elementary Principals Association, an Elder at Bullittsville Christian Church, and a lifetime member of the PTA. She was also a member of D.A.R., Phi Delta Kappa, and the Boone Co. Retired Teachers Association. She was chairman of the first School Site-Based Council in Boone County Schools at Kelly Elementary under the Kentucky Educational Reform Act of 1990; started the Girls Softball program at Boone County High School and coached Girls Volleyball at Boone County High School.

Miss Siekman enjoyed fishing and fishing in professional women's fishing tournaments. Her favorite fishing was at Lake Seminole in Georgia in the spring and various areas in Canada during the summer months. She enjoyed playing golf in her retirement years, spending her winters in Fort Myers, and participating in activities with the YMCA.

Her sister, Mary Dell Siekman, and her brother, John Allen Siekman, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her sister-in-law, Linda (Grow) Siekman of Beavercreek, Ohio; nieces, Emily Douglas (Greg) Merkle of Hebron and Nancy Roberts (Steve) Huff of Centerville, Ohio; and seven great nieces and nephews.

Visitation is Monday, April 10, 2017 from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 p.m. at Bullittsville Christian Church, Burlington, Kentucky. The Funeral Service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. at the church. Interment is at the Sand Run Cemetery, Hebron, Kentucky. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron is serving the family.
