The family and friends of Thomas James Solomon are celebrating today - celebrating the life of a truly remarkable man. He was born on February 8, 1920, and passed away on June 4, 2017.

He is survived by his three children; Ken (Brenda) Solomon, Karla (Jerry) Wright, and Dennis (Barbara) Solomon; six grandchildren – Lori Solomon Smith, Kevin Solomon, Jay Wright, Erin Wright Roberts, Tricia Hackney and Beth Moore; and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition, he leaves behind one sibling, Emma Carnes, numerous nieces and nephews and friends wherever he went.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Irene Bowling Solomon; and, more recently, his wife of 10 years, Violet Lyons Solomon.

The oldest of ten children, Tom found himself thrust into the role of “Man-of-the-House” at the tender age of 16 following the death of his father, Fred. Duty and honor became a way of life for him. When World War II began, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served with distinction for four years. After the war, he met Irene at church. She worked at Western Union and told him they were hiring. He got hired on and went to work for Western Union as an electrical technician and retired after 37 years in 1982. Upon retirement, he and Irene stayed active teaching and participating in Senior Citizen Centers in Elsmere, Covington, and Campbell County. His volunteer years of service nearly equaled his years of paid employment.

Visitation is at the Central Church of the Nazarene, 2006 Pieck Drive, Fort Wright, Kentucky, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, followed immediately by the service.

In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations be made to St. Elizabeth Hospice, 483 South Loop Drive Edgewood, KY 41017.

Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger, is serving the family.
